The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called for inoculating at least 10% of the population of every country by the month of September, stressing that vaccination is the best possible way to control the pandemic.
The WHO chief said that there are enormous inequities in the access to vaccines which are triggering a two-way pandemic. He said that though some countries have attained a high level of vaccine coverage against COVID-19, several others lack enough doses to vaccinate their healthcare workers, older people and other at-risk populations. He appealed for a global effort to inoculate at least 10% of the population of every country by September, at least 40% by the end of this year, and at least 70% of the population of every country by the mid of next year… (ET Healthworld – PTI, July 2, 2021)
